| dc.description | The aim of the study is to analyse the challenges facing European democracy in the era of artificial intelligence and the conditions of polycrisis, related to the risks of societal polarisation, disinformation, the emerging of cognitive "battlefield" attacking the minds and hearts of European citizens, in particular young people. After reviewing the global risks according to the World Economic Forum, the results of the European elections in 2024, the strategic priorities of the European Union and the European Commission for the new five-year mandate (2024-2029); and taking into account the growing number of far-right formations in the European Parliament due to the vote of Generation Z, the author shows certain causes and symptoms of the "health" of European democracy. In addition to the methods of analysis and synthesis of primary and secondary sources of information, generalization, inductive and deductive research approach, the study uses the method of frequency distribution by presenting results from an author survey among 65 students, 98% of them, representatives of Generation Z. In conclusion, the publication draws certain conclusions and recommendations for the healing the heart of democracy related to: the new shield of European democracy, which needs trained "knights"; the vulnerability of open European societies; and the risk that the "digital square" and AI can become an anti-democratic trajectory, undermining the foundations of the EU. | en |
