Abstract: As Borer and Harris argue, "our building practice should alleviate as much as possible the environmental debt which the next generation is going to have to pay" (Pickerill, 2016, p. 17) Expectations for enhanced urbanization processes and forecasts for global building growth over the coming decades suggest that new construction will increase opportunities to limit the environmental footprint of buildings on the environment by applying the certification method of each building. The leading international standards for ecological construction are proof of high quality and good building characteristics that can achieve different economic, social, environmental, marketing and other effects. Their regulation and wider application is a guarantee of optimizing the energy, materials and CO2 emissions into the atmosphere and limiting the adverse impact of buildings on the environment throughout their lifecycle.
